Introduction to the UD Bookstore-Fall 2021

BARNES & NOBLE UD BOOKSTORE

The UD Bookstore is the University’s official provider of textbooks for classes, meaning we work closely with departments, faculty, and administrators to have the course materials the students need for all classes. In this case, “course materials” doesn’t just mean textbooks, but can also include digital materials, lab materials, and other required miscellanea like circuit boards. Everything carried in the textbook department was specifically requested by a member of the University. Students can purchase course materials at the UD Bookstore using their Student Accounts, meaning students can apply financial aid rather than immediately paying out of pocket.

Here are some common questions you may receive, and helpful information in understanding how the Bookstore works.

Why should I buy my books at the bookstore?

In addition to buying new books, we also carry used books, ebooks, and rental textbooks. Beyond the ability to charge to your Student Account to apply financial aid, purchasing your books at the UD Bookstore ensures you have the correct material, and guarantees that you have the ability to return your books in the event the material changes.

We strongly recommend all students order their books on our website sooner rather than later.

We process orders in the order they are received. If you are interested in used or rentals, the earlier your order is placed the more likely to get the material the way you would like it. There is a limited number of used copies and rentals available.

Can books be purchased in the Bookstore without coming into the store?

Yes, books can be purchased on the UD Bookstore Website to be shipped to home.

When will books be available?

We will have books available in the store even before first year students have received their finalized schedules. Keep in mind, this does not mean all books will be here, and as we continue to pursue late book orders, these books will become available slowly. If you order a book on our website that has yet to arrive in-store, your order will be fulfilled as soon as the book is received.

Rent? Did you say rent?

The most common question we receive during Orientation is about rentals. Parents are used to the idea of buying new or used, but most are not used to the idea of renting books or Digital Delivery. Books can be rented for a reduced price, and students can write and highlight in the book. As long as the book is returned by the due date, no additional fees are charged. Books cannot have water damage or pages falling out.

So what is Digital Delivery?

Digital Delivery is a program set up by faculty in conjunction with publishers that provides students with digital materials by the first day of class at a substantially lower price than the print materials. The Bookstore helps to deliver the material by sending the emails on behalf of the faculty and working with students to make sure they can access their materials.
