FINANCIAL AID - FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Applying for financial aid is one of the most misunderstood yet important parts of the admission process. We're here to help guide you and your student through the process.

How do I apply for financial aid?

When should I complete the FAFSA?

File the FAFSA by January 15 to ensure timely notification of your full financial package. The federal government awards roughly $120 billion annually to college students through need-based grants, loans, and work-study funds. In addition to determining your eligibility for federal student aid, the University of Delaware uses the FAFSA when distributing grants. Check with your individual state about filing deadlines as state funding is limited in some instances and states may have separate deadlines.

When will I learn my financial eligibility?

The University of Delaware notifies students of merit scholarships starting by the end of December, and those admitted after that date should expect to hear approximately two to three weeks after their admission decision is released. For out-of-state students who have completed the FAFSA, full financial awards, including eligibility for need-based grants and loans, will be available around this time as well. In-state students who have completed the FAFSA will receive full financial aid eligibility information in late January/early February. Once finalized, merit scholarship letters and award notices are mailed to students and are available on their My Blue Hen Home portals as well.

Remember: Completing the FAFSA is essential for securing many types of financial support for college. In addition to federal grants and loans, the University of Delaware and various states and scholarship programs use the form to assess eligibility for their aid programs.

Hi - I’m waiting for a loan to be certified by the school. What happens if the loan is not processed and acknowledged before the 8/1 deadline. I’m starting to worry because the deadline is looming.

Is that in reference to the Parent Plus Loan? I added a cosigner and they said it goes direct to the school for them to decide? But I have heard nothing.
